Fontana, San Bernardino County
Henry J. Kaiser built a steel mill in Fontana in 1942 to supply plate for wartime shipyards on the coast. For four decades the mill employed thousands of local workers, and its closing in 1983 changed the economy of the town. Part of the property still finishes steel, and much of the rest has been redeveloped.
